The Razor Clam Poster Artwork by Karin Malzan Phifer

Artist Bio Karin Malzan Phifer

Karin Malzan Phifer traces her artistic roots back to quilt making in the 1980s, which transitioned from traditional techniques to free-form art quilts in 1998, after she took a class with world-renowned quilt artist Nancy Crow. In subsequent years, Karin taught, published, exhibited and sold her fiber art in Germany, Switzerland and the US. Her art work became a full time occupation in 2001, when she moved to Tucson AZ. In an 11-year affiliation with an art school called “The Drawing Studio” she explored in-depth the skill of drawing and added it to her repertoire, initially only drawing on fabric compositions. In 2013 she and her husband, driftwood sculptor Stephen Phifer, moved to Washington state, where she opened
Sandphifer Gallery in 2016. Currently, Karin is focused on working in color pencil on paper and/or mat board as well as on abstract fiber
compositions.
